Spyware Removal

One of the first things you can do is go to add/remove programs in the control pannel and see if there are programs that you don't reconize and don't sound like they are necessary. Another thing you can do is to run Spybot and AdAware to do a search for spyware and remove it. We have several other tools to help clean your computer and you can feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

AdAware Instructions

Ad-Aware offers both a "smart scan" and a full system scan. The smart scan is usually a much better use of time. The full scan is good if there are still noticable problems after a smart scan.

Step One: Update Ad-Aware:

1. Begin by clicking "Check For Updates" (above the start button):

   

2. Click "Connect":

   

3. After the update, choose "Finish":

   

Step Two: Scan Your Computer:

1. After updating Ad-Aware, click the start button as shown here:

   

    

2. Select "Perform Full System Scan" then click on Next:

   

    

3. Wait as the scan runs (it's a good idea to go somewhere else for a while.)

   

    

4. Once the scan completes, click "Next":

   

    

5. Right-click on any item, and click "Select All Objects" from the menu:

   

    

6. Click "Next":

   

    

7. Click "Ok" and wait as Ad-Aware quarantines all items:

   

Spybot Instructions

Spybot is another tool useful for spyware and adware removal. It is similar to Ad-aware in that it just scans your computer for any known spyware. You must update Spybot for maximum effectiveness. Immunization of IE is another way to help block future Spyware.

SpyBot Instructions

1. The first time you run Spybot, you should see the following. It's up to you whether to create the backup; I usually don't as it seems silly to back up a spyware infection:

   

    

2. Next, click Search for Updates:

   

    

3. The list of update items will appear:

   

    

4. Choose "select all updates" or "download all updates" accordingly:

   

    

5. Wait until the items finish downloading:

   

    

6. At the "Search and Destroy" section, click "Check for Problems":

   

    

7. After the scan completes (be patient), choose "Fix selected problems":

   

    

8. Click yes at the confirmation prompt:

   

    

9. Finally, you should see something like the following (click OK):
